Drivers’ Education

Teacher:

Mr. Williams

Mr. Williams is a very brave man. He puts his life on the line to teach our new drivers the rules of the road. Getting in the car with the new upcoming drivers, he must have great confidence in his drivers. Mr. Williams is a very good teacher and guide. The following is an interview with a brave man.

Q: How is Drivers’ Education coming along this year? A: Good, most of the students are really excited to get their permit and start driving. The only problem is getting them to recognize the problems and responsibilities that go along with driving.

Q: Are you excited for new drivers? A: Somewhat, most students are really nervous to start out, but I try to let them know that I am here to help and not cut them down. I want to make driving fun.

Q: Are you ready to get out of the books and begin driving in the car? A: Somewhat, but the book part of the course is so important and needed in order to understand the driving part of the class.

Q: Are you scared to drive with the new drivers? A: Not really, most students have been behind the wheel driving, so they know what to do and how to handle some situations.

Q: How have you enjoyed teaching Drivers’ Education the past two years at Sandoval Junior-Senior High School? A: The best or funniest thing that brings tears to most students’ eyes is when I tell them about a student that took twenty minutes trying to figure out how to get the beep from the parking brake to stop beeping. He looked under the hood and every place else but could not stop the beep. Both girls in the car had tears running down their face. It has been very enjoyable teaching the past few years at Sandoval High School.

Truck of the Month

Seth and his 1981 Chevy were chosen for the October truck of the month at Sandoval Junior-Senior High School.

Seth was chosen for this not because his car was the best or the newest. He was chosen because the truck means something to him. Seth and his father have been building on his truck for about four years, and he loves it. "It doesn’t matter what people have said," states Seth, "It’s a sense of pride that I have accomplished by building it from the ground up."

Seth and his father are not done with his truck and plan to keep building to it. Although it may not look the greatest, Seth is happy with what he has done and won’t let anyone else tell him otherwise. He knows this truck is something that he has made. This accomplishment gives him a great deal of satisfaction.

Kaskaskia College

Students are attending classes at Kaskaskia College this year during the first four periods of school.

The students who are attending Kaskaskia College in the morning take a wide variety of classes including welding, auto body, and auto tech. The students enrolled in these classes get college credit and high school credit for their time. The students must also be seniors to be able to take the classes. A big benefit for the students in taking the K.C. classes in this way is that they do not have to pay for the classes or the books. The students in these classes attend the classes at one of two places. The welding class is at the CRISP center in Centralia, and the other classes are located at the main campus. Students enrolled in these classes include Tony, Seth, Justin, Andrew, Jason, Michael, and Chad.

If anyone is interested in taking these classes next year, students can talk to Mrs. Butler.
