Child Care

In Child Care Services II, the students that are in the class go to the grade school for two hours a day and four days a week. The students don’t have homework, but the work they have to do in their centers is work enough.

The child care class student workers help their assigned teachers with any extra work that needs to be done. The student workers get a first hand experience working with younger students and get a first hand experience on helping the younger students better understand the lessons. During play time, the student workers let the students know that "sharing toys" and "keeping hands to yourself" are some of the rules to follow during the day. The student workers also get to be a kid again when they are playing with the younger students in the Pre-K class.

The child care class is a very good learning experience. If working with young children and educating young children sounds fun, this program would be a good choice.

Beta Club

The Sandoval High School Beta club does many things throughout the school throughout the year.

This year the Beta club has a new sponsor after the departure of Miss Clark. Taking over the club this year as new sponsor is Mr. Grafton. The Beta club decided to try something new for a fund raiser this year and decided to sell Krispy Kreme doughnuts. This fund-raiser however did not go over as well as expected, and the profits were not as large as the club had hoped they would be. The Beta club is also in charge of the blood drive which is usually held twice a year. The first blood drive this year will be October 29, 2008. Usually the blood drives always seem to be pretty successful. In addition to the blood drives, the Beta club has food drives a few times a year to collect food for the local food pantry. These food drives are usually held around the holidays.

National English Honor Society

The National English Honor Society is busy at work trying to improve language skills in the community. They are currently involved in reading to grade school students two days a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, two students from the Sandoval High School go to the Sandoval Elementary School and read to the kindergarten and first grade students for the first two hours of the day. It is proposed that early interaction with reading will help children read better later in life.

The National English Honor Society is also sponsoring an "All-You-Can-Eat" pancake breakfast on November 8, from 7:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. in the Sandoval Junior-Senior High School Cafeteria. Tickets are $4 and $6 in advance and will be available for sale soon. If you wish to pay at the door, tickets will cost $5 and $7.

English IV

English IV is a fun, dual credit class. The class is already working and just about finished with the first paper and the first group project. In one high school class, a student can earn a high school credit, college credit, and the writing and reading skills that he or she needs for college. English IV is taught by Mrs. Hughes, and the students of Sandoval know Mrs. Hughes which is also a plus for the class.

During a class activity, the English IV class put on a play about the story Iliad by Homer. Sarah played Hector, Chris played a horse, Lacey played Achilles, and Ryan was the narrator.

In the play, Hector (Sarah) and Achilles (Lacey) were fighting to the death. Hector is speared by Achilles. The narrator (Ryan) did an excellent job reading the part.

This reenactment of the story was fun and entertaining. These young actors may have a good start into fame. They didn’t have much time to prepare, but they pulled it off and made this play a great show and made the audience laugh.
Some classes at Sandoval Junior-Senior High School aren’t required but are really worth taking. One of these classes is English IV.
