     Most activities will have skills testing and written tests on the knowledge of the activity.  Notebooks will be handed in after each 9 weeks. You will have hand-outs on most activities. Those hand-outs and anything else I give you throughout the year needs to be in your NOTEBOOK!!!

                                                               

MR. CHAPPELL’S

PHYSICAL EDUCATION  CLASS

 

 

RULES

 

1.  All  Sandoval High School Handbook Rules will be enforced in Physical Education Class just as they are in any other class.

 

2.  When the bells rings, students are to be  IN THE GYM - NOT in the lobby!!

 

3.  Students are to go directly to the locker room and get dressed.

 

4.  After getting dressed, students are to return to the bleachers and sit down so we can check roll.

 

5.  Students are to sit quietly while roll is being taken.

 

6.  Juniors or Senior students have the option of not participating in P.E. during the season they are participating in a  sport.  While they are in that sport, they are to report to Study Hall during the hour they would normally be in P.E. Class, and as a result they will receive credit for P.E.   Students are to report back to class one day after their particular sport is over in order to begin participating in P.E. Class again. 

 

7.  Freshman and sophomores that are participating in a sport do not have this option.  They must dress and participate in P.E. even if they have a game, match, etc. that evening.

 

 

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS

 

 

1st Violation - Verbal Warning

 

2nd Violation - 1 Detention will be given

 

3rd Violation - 2 Detentions will be given

 

4th Violation - Referral to the office

 

(Any of  the steps listed above may be omitted if the situation warrants it.)

 

GRADING

 

1.  Student will be graded on participation.  They will receive 100 points each day that they are dressed (50 points) and participate(50 points) in the activity of the day.  A student who does not dress or does not participate will receive a ZERO for each day.

 

2.  Students will be graded on written tests.

 

3.  Student will be graded on skill tests.

 

4.  Students will be graded on their P.E. Notebooks.  A P.E. Notebook will be required at the end of each 9-week grading period.  This notebook can be a folder with pockets or a three-ring binder.  The notebook will simply contain all the handouts, test, quizzes, etc. that the student received in P.E. Class during the 9-week period.  A notebook that does not contain all these items will be considered incomplete and will not receive full credit .  A student who fails to hand in a P.E. Notebook each quarter will have his grade lowered one letter grade.

 

 

UNIFORMS

 

 

1.  A solid color T-shirt or sweat shirt with sleeves is to be worn for all P.E. classes.  No tank tops, shirts with cut out sleeves, or shirts with advertising, etc. are to be worn.

 

2.  Solid color shorts or sweat pants are to be worn.  NO boxer shorts. Length of shorts must be at least 5 inch inseam. Students who don't abide they will be ask to change and take the appropriate grade. (hand book rule)

 

3.  Socks are to be worn. (No bare feet at anytime on the gym floor)

 

4.  Tennis shoes are to be worn at all times for P.E. (Outside or Inside) (No Sandals or flip flops will be worn for P.E.( part of uniform and could have points taken off your grade)

 

5.  (Optional)  Ladies may wish to purchase and wear a sports bra.

 

6.  (Optional)  Men may wish to purchase and wear an athletic supporter.

 

7.  A limited number of T-shirts, shorts, and shoes are available to be borrowed from the P.E. teacher in case an emergency arises.  Any borrowed items must be returned at the end of the class period.

 

 

 

 

 

LOCKER ROOM / SHOWERS

 

1.  Everyone  can  take a shower.  Shower time is provided at the end of each class period.

 

2.  No inappropriate behavior  in the shower/locker rooms.

 

3.  Bring your own bathing supplies (soap, shampoo, deodorant, towel(s), etc.)

 

4.  Shower shoes are optional.

 

5.  Students will be  provided their own combination lock ,if their P.E. locker does not already have one.  Anyone who does not return their lock will pay $5.00 dollars to replace the lock. Anyone who brings a lock must provide combination or extra key to the instructor.

 

6.  Students who fail to lock their lockers, who share lockers with someone else, or who share their combination or keys with fellow students are responsible for their own equipment/belongings.  This is not the P.E. Instructors responsibility. 

 

 

 

 

EXCUSES

 

TEMPORARY EXCUSES  (3 days or less)  -  A student who is unable to participate in P.E. for 3 days or less due to an illness or injury must bring the P.E. Instructor a note from their parent/guardian at the start of P.E. class.  This note will then be forwarded to the office for verification.  Therefore the note must include the name of the parent/guardian we will be calling to verify the excuse and the phone number where they can be reached.  Even if a student does not dress/participate they are to remain in the gym during their P.E. hour.  On the days that a student does not dress/participate they will not receive their 100 daily participation points unless they write a paragraph on a sports- related article.  This could be from a sports magazine, a newspaper, an encyclopedia, etc.  These paragraphs must be turned in to the P.E. Instructor ONE DAY after returning to P.E.  or they will not get credit for those points!

 

 

EXTENDED EXCUSES  (4 days or more) -  A student who is unable to dress or participate in P.E. for an extended period of time (4 days or more) due to an illness or injury must obtain a release signed by their Physician.  This shall be presented to the P.E. Instructor at the start of P.E. Class, who will then forward a copy to the nurse and the office.  Students not participating in P.E. for an extended period of time due to medical reasons will be assigned to Study Hall for that period of time!!  On the days that a student does not dress/participate they will not receive their 100 daily participation points unless they write a paragraph on a sports-related article.  This could be from a sports magazine, a newspaper, an encyclopedia, etc.  These paragraphs must be turned in to the P.E. Instructor ONE DAY after returning to P.E. or they will not get credit for those points!

 

 

NOT DRESSING OR NOT PARTICIPATING POLICY -  This pertains to students who have no illness, injury, or medical reason for not dressing or participating.

 

Students are responsible for their own choices.  Remember, if they choose NOT to dress or NOT to participate in P.E. Class it was their choice.  Students will receive no participation points for each day they choose not to dress/participate.  Students receiving their FOURTH No Dress/No Participation violation during a particular quarter will receive a REFERRAL.  Students will receive a referral for each and every day they do not dress/participate for the remainder of the quarter.  Parents/Guardians will receive a copy of each referral in the mail.  Actions of this nature are considered a disregard of regulations as stated in the Student Handbook under Student Responsibilities and Student Conduct .  Student who make the choice to not dress/participate are in jeopardy of not receiving credit for P.E. Class.

 

 

 

                                             Referral Notices

 

First Referral- Principal talks to student and gives them a detention

Second Referral – Principal talks to student and issues them 2 detentions

Third Referral – Principal talks to student and gives them isolation.

Fourth Referral – Principal talks to student and gives them 2 isolations and warns them the possibility of suspension.

Fifth Referral- Principal talks to student and gives them 3 isolations and again warns them about the possibility of being suspended.
