Cave trip to Illinois Caverns

.

Ready to go!

In April 2008 the Earth Science and Conservation classes went to explore the beautiful underground scenery at Illinois Caverns State Natural Area located south of Belleville, IL.  We had a great time descending into the darkness, wading through the stream that still flows underground, and seeing bats inside the cave.   For more information about Illinois Caverns, visit their website.

Land surveyor Micah Mulvaney visits the Earth Science classes

In September we had a guest speaker from Salem come and talk to the class about taking measurements, building topo maps, and the history of surveying.  Students got a chance to look through some of the instruments and learn firsthand about what a surveyor does in the office and out in the field.
