MATH

Rapidly recall basic addition and subtraction facts

Recall multiplication facts through tens

Add and subtract whole numbers with or without regrouping

Solve story problems involving whole numbers

Read, write, and order numbers

Solve number patterns and their rules

Use and estimate various units of measure

Begin to use data collection and analysis (pictograph and bar graphs)

Tell time to the hour, half hour, five minutes, and minute

Count money using dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies

Introduce the basic geometric concepts

Introduce fractional values

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Maintain writing complete sentences

TECHNOLOGY

Be able to test on Accelerated Reader with little assistance before leaving third grade

Use grade level computer programs to enhance classroom subjects

ART

MUSIC

  • Demonstrate on understanding of rhythmic patterns, including two eighth notes, quarter, half, and whole notes and rests and meters of 2s, 3s, and 4s by singing, playing, and moving    

  • Understand melodic concepts, including so, la, do, re, me, so, la, so

  • Show an understanding of musical form including round, rondo, and ostinato

  • Play pitched and unpitched percussion instruments

  • Respond to music and make aesthetic observations

  • Develop attitudes of cooperation, appreciation, and interest in music

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH

Relate that basic physical exercise is essential for positive development and health of the human body

Understand that both mental and physical development are necessary to a healthy body

Understand that consumer health, safety, and environmental health are important

Develop an appreciation for basic physical fitness and leisure activities

Understand that basic physical fitness and health are essential to a sound body

Use their basic skills to perform a variety of activities

Understand that life-saving situations can be controlled through knowledge of basic skills and use of safety precautions
