MATH

SCIENCE

PHYSICAL SCIENCE:

Apply concepts used in determining the location of objects in space

Recognize characteristics of light and sound and how they are perceived

Compare and contrast physical and chemical properties of matter

BIOLOGICAL SCIENCE:

Understand criteria used in the classification of organisms

Perform experiments to test hypotheses

Recognize and apply components of ecosystems

EARTH SCIENCE:

Understand and apply concepts of Earth’s natural phenomena, e.g. ocean waves, earthquakes, volcanoes, plate tectonics

Relate motion of Earth, moon, and tides

TECHNOLOGY

Be able to access and research information off the Internet for the purpose of reports

Use Microsoft word processing to complete an essay or research paper with specified instructions

Be able to edit the text of an article by using under-lining, italics, bold face, etc. Another example of this would be changing the size of the text.

Be able to access and successfully use Accelerated Reader software

ART

Recognize properties of light, its combinations, and its uses

Recognize properties of pigments, their combinations and uses

Recognize techniques used by various artists

Recognize and use structural elements in three-dimensional forms

MUSIC

Demonstrate an understanding of rhythmic elements, including dotted and triplet notation and time signature

Recognize names of lines and spaces in bass clef

Understand canon, theme, and variations

Recognize orchestral and concert band sounds and individual instruments by sight and sound

Use musical terms, symbols, tempo markings, and key signatures (Certain students will continue formal string orchestra or band instruction at this grade level.)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

  • Demonstrate good attitude, endurance, and coordination

  • Understand good sportsmanship

  • Demonstrate a variety of strategies to succeed in sports

  • Work cooperatively with group or partner to reach a goal shared by all involved

  • Use safe practices when doing activities

  • Participate in activities to improve physical fitness
