Great Job.. Mrs.

&
Students
Second- and third-grade
students performed a musical entitled “Movin’ In the Right Direction” on
Thursday, November 13, in the SGS gym. Written by Sally K. Albrecht and Jay
Althouse, the songs encouraged all of us to make good choices and build
character by doing the right things. In addition to the title song, other
titles included “So Small,” “Your Choices Count,” “Each of Us Has a Light,”
“Could-a, Would-a, Should-a,” “Step by Step,” and “Dare to Make a Difference.”
Many singers also had speaking parts to help explain the messages of the songs.
After the concert, students talked about what they had learned. Some said they
enjoyed doing the speaking parts. Others liked the movements that went with the
songs. Still others realized all the music skills used to sing well in unison
and two parts while communicating the words to the audience. One of their
favorite things was receiving the applause for a job well done. They are
already looking forward to next year’s performance!

The grade school gym was filled with families and
friends for the Christmas program on Thursday, December 4, presented by
kindergarten and first grade students. The evening began with “Jingle Bells”
being sung and played on the bells by the kindergarten classes.
The musical play “The Littlest Christmas Tree”
featured first graders as singing and talking Christmas trees, along with elves
from Santa’s Christmas tree lot. They were getting ready for Santa and Mrs.
Claus to come to choose their very own tree. The competition between the trees
was fierce, as each one thought he or she was the perfect tree for Santa’s
house. Santa, however, chose the “Littlest Christmas Tree” because he was the
only tree who knew what Christmas was really all about – love, caring, sharing,
laughter, hope, and joy.
Songs included “Time to Decorate the Tree,” “I’m
Gonna Be Santa’s Tree,” “Tiny Tree Rap,” “The March of the Christmas Trees,”
“Christmas Is,” “O Christmas Tree,” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
