Mrs. Stocking

Home Up

Mrs. Stocking’s 2nd grade took a challenge this holiday season.

Mrs. Stocking’s 2nd grade took a challenge this holiday season.  The first student was chosen randomly to take a dollar bill and try to double it by doing something good for someone.  That student brought back the dollar bill along with two more dollars.  The rest of the class was then given a dollar bill and challenged to the same thing.

The students came back telling of things they had done for family members, etc.  Some of the things that were done were cleaning their rooms, doing the dishes, helping with laundry and babysitting.

The total amount of money contributed to the challenge was $62.00.  The students then voted on what charity to give the money to.  They chose one of Mrs. Stocking’s friends who takes in homeless animals and gets the animals to No Kill Shelters.  The students have all felt good about doing some kindness through this season and the whole Sandoval Elementary building is proud of their accomplishment.

Welcome to our class webpage.  I will try to update as much as possible.  We have been having a lot of fun in 2nd grade! We are learning Math, Spelling and reading many new interesting stories.

We have already gone on 2 Field trips.  One to Antique Power Days in Salem. What an awesome time we had.  Thanks to Mr. Towler and Mr. Brandt for showing us around and a special thanks to Mr. Brandt's family for letting us picnic at their campsite.

Our Second Field trip was to see a play in Mt. Vernon.  We love to get out and experience the Arts!

This week we worked hard on our Class Musical!  It was quite a big Success.

On Friday, Nov. 14th we had our First Marble Party..  yeahhhh

As we begin our 2nd quarter of school several things are in store:

*WE are learning how to count money. Please practice at home

*WE started reading Weekly Readers

*WE started taking Math Fact test.  Please study these with your child as they will be tested on the facts on a regular basis.

Classroom Procedures

Our class operates with a daily  behavior/ homework chart.  If  students break a rule or forget homework a series of steps will be taken.

First step:

Students will move their green car and a blue card will be in front.

Students spend 10 min. at recess.

Step 2:

Students will move their blue card and a yellow card will be in front.

Students will spend 20 min. at recess.

Step 3:

Students will move their yellow car and an orange card will be in front.

Students will spend 30 min. at recess.

Step 4:

Students will move their orange card and a pink card will be in front.

Student will spend 30 minutes at recess, a note sent home and a trip to Mr. Schulte.

At the end of the week if no card has been turned, students will be able to pick from the treasure chest in our room.  Keep in mind students will get their names on the board for neglecting to do their homework and bringing it back, bringing their planners back not signed, or for misbehavior in the classroom, school grounds or lunchroom.

We do classroom parties through the marble system.  Students receive marbles for various  reasons (no names on the board, a compliment from another teacher, moving quietly from place to place etc.)  Once our class has filled our marble jar, they will receive a class party from me.  These parties consist of a movie, popcorn, soda, etc.
