READING READINESS

Recognize 8 basic colors (red, yellow, blue, green, orange, purple, brown, black)
Recognize likenesses and differences in pictures and words

Recognize capital and lower case letters of the alphabet

Print capital and lower case letters of the alphabet
Print capital and lower case letters from memory
Know sounds of all 21consonants
Know long and short vowel sounds                                   
Be able to rhyme words
Be able to sequence                                                                                              
Know reading readiness and color words

MATH READINESS  

  • Recognize and draw 6 basic shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, diamond, oval)

  • Understand color and shape patterns

  • Name days of the week and months of the year

  • Recognize numbers 1to100

  • Count to 100

  • Understand concepts (more, less, larger, smaller, above, below, etc.)

  • Understand the concepts of addition and subtraction

ART

Improve fine motor skills (tracing, copying, coloring inside lines, cutting on lines, gluing neatly)            

Participate to best of ability in art projects

SCIENCE and SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Participate in experiments

  • Recognize special celebrated holidays, events, and individuals

  • Follow current events and activities through the use of Weekly Reader and Science Spin

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND HEALTH

  • Understand that basic physical exercise is essential for positive development and health of the human body

  • Understand that both mental and physical development are necessary to a healthy body

  • Understand that consumer health, safety, and environment health are important

  • Develop an appreciation for basic physical fitness and leisure activities

  • Understand that basic physical fitness and health are essential to a sound body

  • Use basic skills to perform a variety of activities

  • Understand that life-saving situations can be controlled through knowledge of basic skills and use of safety precautions

MUSIC

  • Sing in a free, light head voice, alone and with others

  • Express musical feelings through movement

  • Demonstrate steady beat with a simple instrument

  • Apply concepts of beat, loud, soft, fast, slow, etc.

  • Sing songs from memory

  • Participate willingly in musical activities

  • Experience music of diverse style, culture, and times

TECHNOLOGY

  • Identify the main computer components (CPU, monitor, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, speaker, printer)

  • Use mouse skills (single and double click, drop, drag)

  • Interact with drill and practice programs

  • Identify letters and numbers on the keyboard

  • Send and receive class e-mail messages through the Internet

OTHER

Others areas are worked on all year, such as listening, following directions, visual and auditory memory, expressing self in complete sentences, working from left to right, completing simple tasks, and working independently.
